tucker barkley is god.

another reason i can't wait to move back to LA: millenium dance studio is only six something miles from where i will be working and tucker barkley (as well as shane sparks, wade robson and my favorite phi nguyen of the jabbawockeez) teaches a late class on the weeknights.

a little tucker sampling:

sprint city lights.

my favorite sprint commercial - found it!! gotta love youtube. (=

honey, it's nine in the afternoon.

the two albums from my favorite fueled by ramen decaydance babies are coming out within a week of each other (the hush sound's goodbye blues came out this past week, and panic at the disco's pretty. odd. comes out in two days) and both their music videos from their respective first singles play with color-themed rooms that correspond to each band member. interesting...

goodbye blues.

the hush sound's third album goodbye blues just came out and i'm absolutely in love with it. they've kept true to their whimsical, instrumental and creative qualities that i've always adored about them while becoming more sultry, powerful, grounded/solid with a grungier, darker more intelligent sound.

and now, for a little tasting! the first two songs off their album, honey and medicine man:

AND, phantom planet is now a fueled by ramen band?!?! whooaaaaa! (this could be old news really, but i just found out and i'm blown away..)

damn near perfect.

i just got home from an amaaaazing weekend. first of all, the weather was effing perfect the whole time. saturday i went over to brentwood to hang out with danG and his roommate benS. we went to mozza for drinks and dinner. while waiting for a spot at the pizzeria mozza bar, we had some wine at osteria mozza, where an acquaintance of theirs works (as a sommelier, i think?). for dinner we split three appetizers (eggplant caponata, meatballs al forno, white beans alla toscana bruschette) and two pizzas (fennel sausage, panna, red onion & scallions and speck, bufala mozzarella, olive tapanade & oregano). everything was absolutely amazing. afterwards we went to hyde on sunset - i felt so LA being in such a celebrity hangout - i guess they know someone who was able to get our names on the list. and i did have a celebrity sighting! i was less than two feet away from john legend!! pretty damn cool.

sunday morning, danG and i had brunch at cora's coffee shoppe in santa monica - i had a very yummy tuna panino, and then we and benS drove up to a malibu beach. i was getting major deja vu when i realized it was the beach my high school class used to go to for our start-of-the-year retreat. random! we afternooned in malibu before heading back to brentwood, then i made them dinner (because they literally didn't let me pay for anything this weekend), we watched the matador, and grabbed some pinkberry. i had such a great time - i really haven't had this much fun in a long time - and the weather was perfect and beautiful the whole time too. i really really really really can't wait to move back to this coast.

solid start.

it is tragic - and painfully so - that southwest airlines no longer flies direct from philadelphia to los angeles. luckily for me, i only have to make the trip a couple more times. it's just hard for me to take any other airline because, one, i'm trying to rack up enough flights for another free flight - having flown southwest pretty much exclusively for domestic flights (LA, philly, boston, chicago) over the past three to four years i've managed to get a few - and, two, their ding! flights are pretty dang cheap sometimes. but what used to be a 5-6 hour flight - direct - is now 7-8 hours of airtime plus an additional hour or two for the layover in between. and let me tell you, i hate airports.

anyway, after my networked life midterm on thursday, i rushed to the airport to catch my flight back to los angeles for spring break. had an hour layover in houston - my first time in texas since i lived their as a three-year-old - where i had a fat tire and guacamole burger at pappas burger. pretty good, and the beer definitely helped to pass the time. funny thing though, in my half hour sitting in the joint, i heard "y'all" and "yeehaw!" several times. oh, texas. finally arrived at LAX around 11p - a solid twelve hours since i left my apartment in philly, and got home around 12.30a.

friday was a perfect day. beautiful sunny blue sky, not a sky in the cloud and temperatures in the mid-seventies. drove to dreamworks for lunch and had such an awesome time seeing and catching up with people that i worked with last summer. and the fish tacos were pretty dang tasty as well. i was there until about 2.30p, then i did some grocery shopping at trader joe's with my mom and spent the afternoon doing small errands. we had dinner at the amazing dumpling house on valley blvd off baldwin ave - it's one of those places i seriously crave when i'm away from home.

afterwards, i drove over to the west side to watch 10,000BC with danG. we went to the mann theatre on the santa monica promenade, and had time to kill so grabbed a drink at barney's beanery first. the movie itself was, pretty, well.. to but it gently, terrible. we knew this going in because it only got 8% on rottentomatoes.. but we figured at least the vfx would be good since the trailers look awesome, but even that was pretty bad.

i got to caltech about half-past midnight for a milonga mike had told me about. i haven't tango'ed in something like four months, so i was definitely pretty terrible at first, but i was able to get a little better by the end of the night. i definitely had fun though and am glad i went. it went until 3am, but mike and i left around 2.30a, since we had to get up at 6.30a on saturday to fix some network issues at my dad's office. weeee..! needless to say, i am exhausted right now, but the weather is so perfect and i've had such a good time that i don't care. man, i sure do love and miss california.

sunday supper.

went to supper with liz and erica for their sunday supper, which happens on the first sunday of every month. its $35 for a 3 course dinner, the only catch being that the food is served at 7p (so you can't come later or too much earlier) and you don't get to choose what you eat, or even know in advance what it will be [correction: they post the menu online beforehand, but i failed to notice that earlier]. however, the food is amazing and the portions are very filling - whereas normally they specialize in 'small plates' - so it is a great deal. they even come around asking if you want seconds of everything, and while we didn't stay long enough for this, it is rumored that afterwards they give you take-out boxes filled with their leftovers.

the menu is as follows:
first course
rocket salad with roasted beets and stilton

entree
roast beef with natural au jus
parsley and horseradish condiment
glazed carrots
potato and celery root puree
yorkshire pudding

dessert
sticky toffee bread pudding
rum raisin ice cream

my one complaint was that their salad had too much beet and not enough of the salad. other than that, everything was excellent. the roast beef was juicy, the carrots sweet, the bread pudding soft but firm and crunchy on top, and the rum raisin ice cream was very very rum-y. i definitely ate more than i should have, without having asked for seconds, and left nothing on my plate. the next sunday supper is on my birthday and i'm very tempted to go again. mmm!
