udon at marugame monzo.


for those who know me, they know i am a noodle-lover. obsessed with noodles. i even had the noodle dream once. one of my favorite kinds, and probably my favorite japanese noodle, is udon. and how lucky am i that marugame monzo has opened in little tokyo and hand makes their udon fresh in house? i absolutely had to go!



we went on a sunday night, and there was a bit of a wait, but it was very worth it. we got seated at the bar in the back that surrounds the udon making station. the food was spectacular, the noodles had such great texture and chew. check out this LA Times Daily Dish article about it - featuring my photos!










this was their spicy tuna hand roll, which came without rice and you assembled yourself. really tasty, simple and fresh.



of course, we had to get the classic shrimp tempura udon. we both added on a half cooked egg (which i've gushed about my love for before) but this one actually came tempura'ed as well! amazing!



and just because i was curious (and a total self-proclaimed fatty) i ordered an extra of their mentai squid butter. there were other udon dishes i had wanted to try as well, but they were actually out of the uni butter AND the duck nanban. what are the chances? regardless, this one was absolutely delicious and i'll just have to go back for the uni and the duck another time.
