food&movies.

short rib tacos from kogi.

eek, i'm so behind in posting.

we went to a screening of jason & the argonauts at the getty villa on saturday morning, and then spent part of the afternoon just wandering the grounds and taking photos. since we were already up in malibu, we stopped over at the reel inn for some seafood goodness. we'd never been before, but i love the whole beach-shack vibe and the menu. i had grilled monkfish and dan had the mahi mahi sandwich. all very yum. that night we watched (500) days of summer down at the laemmle in santa monica (it was amazing!!) and then went over to anisette for a late night glass of wine and some oysters.

sunday morning we did a 4 mile run (first long run in 3 weeks) and then brunched at blue plate on montana. we had a half stack of blueberry pancakes and a tomato and turkey pastrami scramble - it's a great spot and quickly becoming one of our favorites. we also headed down to the bridge and watched harry potter & the half-blood prince in their director's hall - very worth the extra miles and bucks, the seats are big cushy leather seats and the sound was just awesome. i haven't re-read the book recently so i can't say how well it kept to it, but the movie itself was good and the vfx were pretty mindblowing.

tuesday night, john lasseter hosted hayao miyazaki over at the academy in beverly hills. they showed clips from a bunch of his movies and had q&a sessions inbetween. it was pretty freaking unbelievable - and miyazaki is such a funny old japanese man. they also had some original cells from a bunch of his movies in the gallery. so glad we were able to get tickets to it. aftewards, we booked it over to gjelina in venice to catch the end of dinner and dessert with my brother, mattJ&angela. the scraps we munched on were good, and then we got the chocolate banana bread pudding for dessert which was pretty amazing. we were tempted to stop by the kogi truck which was just 2 blocks away afterwards, but it was late and we were full so we opted not to (but they had a kimchi pupusa special that would have been sooo gooood!!)
