delightful burgers, and some pappy, at plan check.

michael and his wife very recently moved back to west LA, and on our first visit to see them and their new place, we decided to go to plan check. i've wanted to go for quite some time, but like so many things lately, it kept getting put off due to time and money-saving purposes. however, i am so glad we went because the food was absolutely delicious. above, is the bleuprint burger (smoked blue cheese, pig candy, fried onions, roasted garlic steak sauce, peppercress) with cheese on the side.

we also had the pickled beet salad (candy stripe beets, whipped goats cheese, peppercress, pomegranate molasses, olive oil) and veggie chips (with avocado dip).

i had the southern fry (smokey fried jidori chicken, spicy green pimento cheese, duck breast ham, pickles), andrea had the PCB aka plan check burger (akaushi red wagyu beef, americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, mixed pickles, crunch bun) and james had the chef's favorite burger (cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, sunny fried egg, hot sauce) - which he said is even better than umami's manly burger, which was his favorite until this evening. all the beef burgers were with wagyu i believe, even if only the PCB is listed as being wagyu. and the fried chicken sandwich was SO. GOOD. and duck breast ham! who knew? the fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and fried - and i really just wanted to put it on a waffle - but i think that's james's southern influence on me.

most excitingly, they had "listed" pappy van winkle 20 year bourbon on the menu, which james has been trying to find and try for quite some time now. he enjoyed it thoroughly, though when the bill arrived, it said it was only the 12 year. so we have a new mission..

lastly, for dessert we had their homemade donuts and cereal ice cream bar. the donuts came out piping hot - pretty amazing stuff. i was hoping the cereal ice cream bar would taste more like cereal milk, and it was more just milk or cream ice cream with cereal on it.
