dinner at the morrison.

first off, forgive me for how dark the photos in this post turned out. my phone camera is good, but it's not that good (and as usual, i'm too lazy to do any photo editing).

anyway! we met our good friend and coworker david for dinner at the relatively new scottish gastropub in atwater village, the morrison. i really wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised by both their drinks and their food.

they have quite the beer selection, and i also had the morrison gimlet (hendricks gin, fresh lime, sweetened cucumber) and a taste of the applewood (woodford bourbon, house smoked apple juice, sweetened yerba mate tea, peychaud bitters). both really nice. they also looked to have more whiskeys behind the bar than what was on the menu, so we'll have to explore that a little more next time.

house made pickles (above) and black pudding barotto with wild mushrooms and fennel (below). both delicious. i really, really enjoyed the barotto (barley risotto, i assume?). really great earthy, umami flavors that  went quite well with the black pudding. i could have definitely eaten a lot more of it.

james had the morrison fillet burger with port salut, celeriac remoulade and marrow butter (above) and said it was very good. our friend david had scottish salmon with bashed neeps, kale and dill creme fraiche (below). it's definitely a great addition to the atwater village neighborhood, and we'll definitely have to go again.
