brunch specials at square one.

it's been awhile since we've had brunch at square one dining, and i'm not sure why because it's one of my favorite places for brunch. yes, it's a bit expensive, and yes, there's always a wait, and yes, parking is annoying, and yes, the giant blue scientology building looms over it, but one really can't complain about the food.

we usually order off the normal menu, but when we went on sunday, everything we ordered ended up being off the "specials" board. the soup du jour was a gazpacho - super tasty. and still had whole chunks of vegetables in it, and a good amount of jalapeno, to give it quite a kick.

then i had the shrimp and grits. it wasn't the type of shrimp and grits i am accustomed to, because it wasn't cheese-y or bacon-y, but instead there was a fried egg and chorizo on top. at first the chorizo turned me off a bit to it, but i ended up loving it after a couple bites. plus, i've always loved the grits here, so this was perfect.

james had the breakfast tacos (eggs and bacon, with pico de gallo and avacado) with a side of grits. i can't speak much to it, as i didn't try any, but he really enjoyed them, and says his only complaint is that there should have been four tacos instead of three.
