eating well at little dom's.

we made resy's at little dom's in los feliz for dinner friday night. it's a neighborhood staple that we hadn't been to yet, and had been meaning to forever. there was no special occasion other than my remembering that we should go! we were actually seated past the back of the restaurant inside their deli. nicely transformed for dinner service, i think, and much quieter and more romantic than the bar area or main dining room.

we started with a very delicious bottle of brezza dolcetto d'alba - not sure why, but we haven't ordered wine or even had wine in what feels like a long time. mostly beers and cocktails, so this was a nice change, and again, really quite tasty. the little glass cork was something new, and i kept it - it's been very handy to cork some 750 ml bottles of beer since.

so i apologize because here the photos get very dark, but there was really only candlelight in the back. i assure the food was very pretty and quite delicious. we started with the oven roasted little neck clams and lamb meatballs. the clams were delicious, sweet, garlicky, tart and a tiny bit spicy, and came in a skillet with bread and some additional dipping juices on the side. the lamb meatballs were small, and there were only three, but they were very good with the cucumber yogurt and tomatoes that came with it.

james had the oven roasted pork shank. i really wasn't expecting the whole shank, but that's how it arrived, and it was really very good.

i had the ricotta gnocci with chanterelle mushrooms, kale and porcini cream. this was amazing. after i ate all the gnocchi and kale and mushrooms, i just started eating spoonfuls of the sauce. it was very woodsy and savory and sweet, and just not-too-heavy.

finally for dessert, we ordered two! the gelato sundae (vanilla gelato, whipped cream and hazelnut fudge on the side) and the zeppole, a sort of donut, which came with marscapone gelato and a berry compote. it was sooooo good. especially that hazelnut fudge.
