night + market : street food at its best.

oh. my. goodness. this. place. is. so. good. i mean, i've heard great things about it for so long now, but it's in west hollywood, and i hate driving out there and dealing with traffic and drunk people and parking, but it is so worth it. we had the fried pig tail (above), beef grapow, nuoc mam fried chicken wings, pork toro, and pad kee mao with short ribs. it was all SO. FREAKING. GOOD.

the fried pig tail was nice and cripy on the outside and juicy and fatty on the inside. i've had plenty of oxtail, but never pork tail, and never like this. beef grapow came with a crispy fried egg on top and was very tender, flavorful, and spicy with little bits of peppers in it.

the fried chicken wings were great. even without sauce, the light better was very well seasoned, very savory, and the rooster sauce that came with it was a nice take on a buffalo wing sauce, but sweeter and spicier. i think our favoirte of the night was the pork toro, which uses the best cut of pork there is (pork neck/jowl / fatty collar - i've seen so many names for it now) which is braised to be sweet and spicy and then grilled. so tender! so much flavor! i could eat five plates of this on my own and be happy. it came with "jaew" a "northeastern chili dip" which was also ridiculously good. i was dipping everything else we ordered in this stuff.

and finally, the pad kee mao. it was very good, but the least exciting dish. we both agreed that if it had come out first, we probably would have loved it, but after all the others, it just seemed a bit plain - but it was all relative. i probably really just wanted more pork toro.

i can't wait to go back, the food was really quite incredible. yet really, so simple. they say it's thai street food, and i totally get it because in its simplicity yet flavorfulness, it totally reminded me of my very favorite street foods in taiwan (albeit with very different spices and flavor profiles all around).
